Just a quick note to predicate the posting of chapters from my upcoming novel, Things Unseen.
I plotting this novel in May of 2019 with writing starting with NaNoWriMo 2019 (National Novel Writing Month in November). During that time, I hit the recommended goal of 50,000 words. After that, I let the novel sit for a little while, writing only sporadically. I’ve recently picked it up again with some sincere focus as it’s currently at about 70,000 words as I write this preface. My expectation is a novel around 150,000 words by the time all is said and done.
These posts are the raw mind-to-page first drafts of the novel. There are occasional gems of good stylistic writing, but my point to date has been to just get the story to (virtual) paper with the intent of performing a first revision for substantive details (plot, character, etc.) and then a second revision for style and good writing. Please bear that in mind as you read through. You will encounter typos, grammatical errors, awkward sentences, the odd misspelling or change of a name, etc. If you have any questions, post a comment to the chapter where your question is and I’ll be happy to answer. Some questions may turn into full-blown posts about the world of Avar Narn. You can also email me your thoughts at firstname.lastname@example.org.
It is my hope that, rough as it is, the story captures your attention and imagination and provides you some respite from the difficult times we are all facing.
I will eventually publish this novel. Whether it will be self-published or I will submit it to big-name publishers is an unresolved question. It’s got to be finished first, after all.
Starting today, I’ll be posting one chapter each day as text on the blog until I hit the point where I’m currently writing; after that, I’ll post each chapter as soon as its first draft is completed. I’ll also maintain a running PDF file with the entire story to date in the “My Writings” section of the blog.
Any encouragement or indications of your enjoyment will be greatly appreciated. If you are so inclined (and financially able; I know many of us are not and this serialization is free for everyone without any expectation of recompense), you can use the “Donate” button in the site footer to send some token of your appreciation.
Without further ado, I hope you enjoy.
